Napoleon Dynamite

Saturday, August 28th, 2004

Just saw this evening.

Napoleon Dynamite was a great movie. I loved the pace. very Idaho (or how I imagine it, rather : ). When I think about the relationship between Napoleon and Pedro, and the speech scene, I think of Jesus when he says “no greater love than that you lay down your life for a friend.” What I’m probably most amazed at is MTV films’ name on a film with zero profanity (a bit of euphemisms). I don’t really understand how some folk don’t get it when I note that I identify greatly with characters such as Napoleon. In general I feel crazy crazy out of place here on earth. I just happened to be wired to do well with people, I guess.

The film doesn’t really “go anywhere”, and is extremely subtle, but it is very sweet, and funny.

There were long lulls, and some stuff trying to be funny but just kinda chuckleworthy. but when it’s really funny, it’s really funny. “The Octagon” comes to mind, and still cracks me up.

My only beef was being in the same audience as a guy who has apparently seen it several times, and decided to quip and annoy others (i noted it wasn’t just myself) who hadn’t seen the movie at all.

Tip: Make sure you stay past the credits.

and oh yeah napoleon’s lady interest is so cute with her dimple. Only in films does stuff like this end up happening.

Funny Kid Quotable of the day

Saturday, August 28th, 2004

as reported by Mommy:

J: “Why do babies grow in mommies and not daddies?”
Mommy: “I don’t know; I guess that’s how God wanted it…”
J: “Maybe it’s because mommies know how to take care of kids better than daddies”.

Do The James!

Monday, August 9th, 2004

man i love cleaning the basement. it’s difficult because i run the risk of spending more time tossing records on the table than cleaning. Just finished listening to select cuts from Beastie Boys “Root Down” EP — brings chills to the spine–if you want the real hip hop listen to the album version of that. ill break and just party rhymes.

Currently up–Super Lover Cee and Cassanova Rud–”Do The James”. ridiculous echo and mix, but you can NEVER resist the honeydripper’s “Impeach the President” break…
